About me

My name is Katia Solodka and I am a Ukrainian artist. I have been passionate about painting since early childhood.
In 2012, I graduated from the Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design in Kyiv. Since then, I have fallen in love with abstract art. It gives me the freedom to create a colorful world full of flowers and blossoms.
In my work, I explore the subtle nature of human emotions – anxiety, tenderness, memory, loss and hope. Color and floral motifs become my language – universal, gentle, able to convey what is difficult to express in words. Flowers for me are not only beauty, but also a metaphor for an inner state, a symbol of fluidity, vulnerability and strength.

A separate part of my search is the theme of emigration. Since 2022, after the start of the war in Ukraine, I have been living and working in the Netherlands. This experience leaves a deep emotional mark: alienation, adaptation, acceptance of a new culture, an attempt to preserve oneself, weaving the old into the new. My works are a dialogue between past and present, between loss and discovery.

I strive to create a space in which the viewer can encounter their own emotions – to hear themselves and understand.

Feel free to explore my work and reach out if you have any questions!

My Artistic Process: From Intuition to Dynamic Composition

When I start a new painting, I always act intuitively, creating color composition, spots, and textures. It is important for me to be completely free and not limited by anything in the first stage. I believe that art is a game that brings pleasure and, at the same time, a journey leading to a specific destination.

Once that destination becomes clear, a more conscious construction of the composition begins. I apply paint in layers, creating depth and richness of the surface. Here, the game turns into constant decision-making. In my works, free-flowing paint application is combined with controlled, dense-textured strokes to achieve contrast and dynamics.

Throughout the process, the work changes many times until a balance between elements, color, and spots is achieved. When the goal is reached, you can feel the independent sound of the painting and the mood that the viewer can interpret for themselves.

In my works, color is an independent means of expression, the main “violin,” while composition and textures help the entire “orchestra” to resonate.
